McGillen.jpgTom McGillen is the Director and Coordinator of Percussion for the Broken Arrow Public Schools.  Mr. McGillen travels to all of the middle, intermediate, and high schools on a weekly basis to teach classes in Beginning and Intermediate Percussion and assists with the 8th through 12th grade bands.  He is the caption head and percussion arranger for the Pride of Broken Arrow and the Tradition of Broken Arrow Marching Bands.  Mr. McGillen also directs both the High School and Intermediate High School Concert Percussion Ensembles and the High School Steel Drum Band.

During Mr. McGillen’s tenure in Broken Arrow, the Pride of Broken Arrow was named the 2006 Bands of America Grand National Champion and has been a Regional Finalist at all of the Bands of America Super Regional Events that they have attended.  The Pride of Broken Arrow has also been named the Oklahoma Band Masters Association Champion six of the seven years under his direction since the fall of 2001.  His private students have received many superior ratings in solo contests on both the district and state levels and they are also consistently placed in the percussion sections of the Tulsa Area All District and Oklahoma All State Band.  The Concert Percussion Ensembles and Steel Drum Band have been selected to perform at the Oklahoma Day of Percussion festival numerous times and the ensemble has consistently received superior ratings at district and state ensemble contests.

Mr. McGillen is a Marching Percussion Specialist and Scholastic Educator with the Vic Firth Corporation and Remo Percussion Corporation.  He is a graduate of Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education and a Masters of Music in Percussion Pedagogy and Performance.

In his spare time, Mr. McGillen enjoys spending time with his family, snow skiing, and watching his favorite TV shows.  In the summer, Mr. McGillen arranges music for numerous high school and college marching bands across the country along with playing a little golf and spending time with his wife Melissa and their son Jackson.
